Class Details

The Intermediate Module gives students in the Professional Herbalist Course the opportunity to continue their online study of herbal medicine during the summer.

Alll new material is covered in this module that is not included in the Professional Herbalist Course: Year 1 or Year 2 curriculum. The focus will be on additional materia medica (the study of specific herb properties by individual herb).

There are no prerequisites. Students may enroll as a continuation of the Year 1 and/or as preparation for Year 2 classes in the Professional Herbalist Course. Graduates of other one-year herbal training programs are welcome to join continuing IIEI students.

Each weekly online class meets live for 3 hours for the 12 weeks of summer term. These 12 classes make up one module. Classes are recorded for those who cannot attend the live session. The Professional Herbalist Certificate Program is offered both online and in-person at various locations in the United States.

The course incorporates practical clinical applications and herbal preparations for Western, Chinese and Ayurvedic herbs. The focus is threefold: 1) herbal therapeutics for each body system, 2) specific healing properties of over two hundred individual herbs, and 3) basic principles of herbalism from these three major traditional herbal healing systems. The Professional Herbalist Course includes clinical and practical applications of herbal preparations and materia medica for Chinese, Ayurvedic and Western herbs.

Modules are not sequential and can be taken in any order. The goal of the Professional Herbalist Course is to prepare you for application for professional membership into the American Herbalist Guild. Some exposure to studying herbal medicine prior to enrollment is helpful, but not required.
